Troop 799 Dark Skies Campout

Please join Troop 799 for a fun filled weekend at its Henry Coe Dowdy Ranch. 

The Ranch site has been reserved exclusively for our use, and with the Bell Station entrance already closed to the public, we'll have this entire section of the state park to ourselves!

The theme of this campout is astronomy.  This is a "dark skies" weekend, we'll be bringing an assortment of high end telescopes and will be working on a variety of astronomy themed scouting requirements.  If you've never seen a nebula, galaxy, or other deep space object before "in person", here's your chance! 

Other activities will include hiking & mountain biking to nearby lakes, shuttle to Mississippi lake for some serious fishing, and of course some of our usual excellent outdoor cooking.

Things to bring:

• Tent (can be shared)
• Tarp (optional)
• Sleeping bag (25 degree or better bag)
• Sleeping pad
• Hot beverage cup (with name on it) – non-breakable
• Paper Plates/utensils will be provided
• Layered clothing
• Webelos Uniform
• T-shirt
• Long sleeve shirt (for poison oak)
• Light weight coat
• Rain coat
• Pants (shorts not recommended)
• Warm socks (extra pairs!)
• Hiking boots
• Toiletries (toothpaste, ect.)
• Water Bottles – Nalgene or canteens preferred
• Hats - one for sun and cold weather
• Gloves
• Sun block
• Chapstick
• Flashlight - You will need red light if you are attending astronomy sessions
• Required medication
• Pocket first aid kit

What not to bring:

• Sandals/open toed shoes
• Knife (without a “Whittling Chit” card)
• Junk food/Candy
• Electronics
• Cots
• Huge tents for 1 person
